Prayer

What is Faith and Prayer?

Faith is to believe in something that you cannot see in the natural realm but you know it to be true.

Hebrews 11:1 Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.

A good example of faith will be planting a tree.  Once you planted the seed you close it up with ground and give it water on a regular basis.  You will give it water regularly without any signs of a tree for weeks on end.  You have faith that the seed that you planted and are watering regularly will grow into a tree.  Prayer is an act of faith as we cannot see God but know that He is there.

Prayer is simply communicating with God.  It is having conversation with your Heavenly Father.  He loves you so much and wants to chat with you all the time.  He is always available and is a great listener.  The most effective prayers are the ones coming from your heart and not your mind. Prayer is a way of life. It is declaring the Word of God. It is agreeing to what God already did and what He promises in His Word.

As we communicate with our Father we are building a relationship with Him.  It is us allowing God through the guidance of the Holy Spirit to teach us and guide us.  Prayer is learning to listen to God’s voice. It is praising and worshipping God for what He has done and is still doing for us.  It is our opportunity to be thankful to God.

How do I pray?

You pray to your Father in the name of Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit.  If you are baptised in the Holy Spirit, pray in tongues much as you are praying God’s perfect will for your life.  It is through the Word of God that we get to know our Father.

How can we define prayer?  God wants to be part of every moment of your life.  He wants you to share everything with Him.  So prayer is anytime anywhere.

When you sing a hymn of Love to God that is a form of prayer.  Praise and Worship is prayer, just listening to His voice is prayer.  Telling someone about Jesus is prayer.  Fellowshipping with other believers around the Word of God is a form of prayer.  Being alone with your Daddy and communing with Him is prayer.  Praying in tongues or your known language is a great way to pray.

Can you see that prayer is not limited to specific times and places?  Of course our alone time with our Daddy is the most precious and is very important in our relationship with Him.

Always be thankful to God.  I always teach people to start their day with 20 thank you’s.  For example:  Thank you Lord for this beautiful day, thank for my warm bed; thank you that I can brush my teeth; thank you for clothes; thank you for my job; thank you for …….  We have so much to say thank you for.  This takes the focus of the things you don’t have.  Start with saying thank you with your heart, mean it.  The Psalms is a good place to learn prayer.

The more knowledge you have of the Word of God, the more your faith will increase.  The more faith you have the easier it will be for you to pray. Fill your heart with the Word of God so that you can pray and declare the power of the Word of God into your life.
