Water Baptism & Child dedication

What is Water Baptism?

Water baptism is the next step that you take after being born again.

When you get born again, your Spirit is renewed and restored in union with God.  You believed that Jesus Christ is the Son of God that died on the cross for your sins.  He was buried in a grave but rose from the dead and is coming back again.

So is baptism in water signifying the death and resurrection of your old and new spirit.  When you got born again your old spirit was crucified with Jesus on the Cross and your new spirit rose again from the dead with Christ.

Romans 6:3 or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in His death?  4 For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism.  And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.  5 Since we have been united with Him in His death, we will also be raised to life as he was. 6 We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives.  We are no longer slaves to sin.

How do I get baptised?

When you die your whole body gets buried right?  So is baptism signifying the death and burial of your old unsaved spirit.  That means that your whole body goes under the water.  When Jesus rose from the dead His whole body was raised right?  So is coming up out of the water signifying your new born resurrected spirit.  We get baptised in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Colossians 2: 12 for you were buried with Christ when you were baptised. And with Him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.

Where does that leave you?

You qualify to get baptised in water immediately after salvation.  The Bible teaches that people got baptised straight after salvation where there was water. (Acts 8:12-13) Many churches have baptism baths and perform baptism after salvation.  If you disciple someone, or are being discipled by someone you can also baptise or be baptised by them where there is water, like a swimming pool or even a bath tub at home.

NOTE:  Should you get baptised but are not born again, it will simply be a wet and refreshing experience and nothing more.  You must be born again for the true meaning to take effect.

What about Children?

Water baptism completes / fulfils the rebirth experience.  A person must be old enough to understand the decision that He / She makes to make God the owner of their lives. (Acts 2:38)  Children that have not come to that understanding yet must be dedicated to God by their parents.  That means that the parents undertake to teach their children in the ways of God and educate them in the Word of God until they come to the age of being able to make such a decision. (Deuteronomy 6:6-7) (Proverbs 22:6)

When they are old enough to understand the new birth experience and baptism they will make the decision and get baptised.  Every person has to make this decision for themselves; parents cannot make this decision on their children’s behalf.  God has given every parent great responsibilities to bring their children up in the ways of His Word, to make sure their children become powerful godly men and woman that lead healthy, wealthy and wise lives.
